Ut Recht is Par

I had a gig in Utrecht for the C-men’s VJ Launch Party at Ekko, together with lots of elite headz. It was really good to hear Lo-bat‘s tight Gameboy drum’n’rock again, and to get some of Jeroen Tel’s good ol’ melodic C64 funk. Gijs Gieskes showed some new weird thingies with Sega and Gameboy and all of that – extremely good as usual – and Otro provided some of his magical pixels. And DJ DMDN again. The C-men is Da Groovy Selekta!

After the gig I missed the train and the morning after I missed another train, but in the evening I magically found myself in Paris nevertheless, to do a show at Fuck You I’m Furious at La Java Club. In Utrecht I destroyed two C64s and in Paris I destroyed a third one, so this was a nice jackpot for me. I stayed with Sidabitball and had a quick peek on his amazing projects which are yet to be revealed, maybe. We went to do some very hot undercover data sightseeing at the mo5. In Paris I was also fined, burned, crepped, mugged, stripped and buried. Hello, here are my photos.

Holland Mini Tour

Ok, three shows in Holland in January, the week after Belgium. When arriving in Holland my suitcase was even more broke than before, and when soundchecking for the first show I noticed my laptop-screen had 1% light in it. So I had to use a tightly operated lamp to see the screen for the rest of the tour. Error flow! The first night was at Studio80, Amsterdam with DMG Plantlife, DJ Monza and the C-men. Good shit, and I especially liked the Gameboying my mister DMG. Very nice slow but pumpy experimental beats, live jammed and just very far from your standard Gameboy music. In Amsterdam I also went to see the Bodies exhibition, which was amazingly interesting! It was especially funny that they saved bellybottoms and asses. What wasn’t so funny, was that all the bodies were actually Chinese…

Rotterdam next! Poing and gabber and Clone! The venue, Worm, was a really nicely decorated place and the building went back hundreds of years and harbour hardcore massive commerce blabla. Also playing were DMG Plantlife, Jeroen Tel, Pornologic, dmdn and C-men. I also made a TV-interview this night. The DJ-set of dmdn was really great, doing one of the best 8-bittish hardcore sets I’ve heard live.

Next day it was off to Tilburg and 013, a huge venue where you could easily get lost and locked out and god knows what. I enjoyed the dancehall party next door, which was like stepping into another universe. Living on MTV!?

Belgium Mini Tour

Ait, so first up was Brussels on January 19th. The day before I bought a new suitcase to stop the airport people from destroying my gear in my crappy backpack, and I also got a new anti-funky haircut. Yes! I arrived at Mediaruimte to discover that the SID-chip in my C-64 was broken, again. So was the suitcase. So I did some LSDJ-improvisations instead, which was good enough I guess. M-.-n also played a nice set with LSDJ and his own GP32-tracker LittleGPTracker. Yeah, and I just missed the Touch exhibition by Lab[au], where you can pixel-animate a skyscraper. Check out the videos!

The day after I had a rally drive to Verviers and the Bubble’s Skate Park! It’s a small place but the two local acts were really fucking fresh. Lovely gameboy beats by Qwertypak and his MC’s (video) and crazy experimental didgeridoo + 2xC64 set by JMX. I also enjoyed the breakcore set by Adrenalien!

Copenhagen February 24

As part of the Rump & Rumraket night I’m doing a show at Global in Copenhagen next Saturday. Also playing is Taxi Taxi! – two Swedish 17 year old indie poppers – and one of my favourites: Karsten Pflum! The same night Je Mappelle Mads & Bounty Niller will offer one of their mindexploding shows together with the sweet electronica-act Band Ane at Rust. So go to Copenhagen, ok?

    Blip Festival in New York

I played at Blip Festival, which is the badest chip music festival to date. 40 musical and visual artists from Europe, USA and Japan rocked for 4 days just next to Wall Street! How about for example Anamanaguchi, Bud Melvin, Mark DeNardo, Hally, Quarta330, Virt, x|k and YMCK with visuals by C-men, Voltage Controlled, noteNdo? Well, too bad if you weren’t there! But there’s 1700 photos and 86 videos for you instead. :) And here’s x|k’s Goto80-tagged photos. And there’ll be a DVD out aswell, so don’t you worry. Be there next year though…………

    Espana de puta madre!

Me and Entter made two shows in Spain. The first one in Barcelona was tight, über-sweaty and almost-fainting style, together with AMB. Totally perfect! The second one was in a mega mighty dance club in the south party area of Alicante. Beside artists like ADA and DAT Politics and more people, I tried to introduce chip music to loved up Spanish techno heads. A tough job, but someone’s gotta do it! Doing a cover of Chimo Bayo always helps though. I did it twice in Alicante. :)

And here’s me signing autographs for Mario in Yes,Robot before going to the venue to be surprised by the TV-team to do a TV-interview.

    Tallinn + Trendy Trash

I went to Tallinn to play at the Plektrum festival. First stop was Stockholm, visiting my brother and good ol’ Role Model. We had good times with expensive booze, Mark Knopfler, Tomas Ledin and Mikael Rickfors. I managed to fuck up my jacket by leaning against a newly painted wall though…

    oh no!

…which was fun at first, but I realised that leaning against a wall had made me all trendy! Which was quite disturbing. And the fact that it was disturbing, was also disturbing! I don’t want to care about my clothes, but hey – I don’t wanna look trendy either. Grrrr….

Anyway, I hoped that my new trendy look would help me get better treatment at the airport. But no. Everyone were assholes as usual. But I got to Tallinn safely (almost missed the plane, as usual), met up with Risto and after some happy confusion also C-men, Gijs Gieskes and Miniroc. I made an interview for Radio 2 aswell with my mad media skillz. Performances and workshops were great (except for my confusing mongo C64-“workshop”), and it was good to see Huoratron play for the first time. He didn’t let me down! We hung around at the Biker’s Club too, which I can recommend… Oh, and when I got back from the hotel I met a group of trashy looking boys with short hair, greeting me with ‘Heil Hitler’. Hmmm, well, naah…. I just went to sleep.

Goto80 + Jossystem sizzling summer action

As a warm up for the summer, me and Dan from Jossystem were (supposed to have been) working on our audiovisual propaganda in May. And we did a gig at the wonderful Oro Gallery in Gothenburg.

In July we did a gig at Backslash (Robots + Naked Chicks + Lasers) and then hung around in the Jossystem HQ in King’s Ear for a week, doing some heavy data work. That’s when I got into Myspace. :) We finished off our data psychosis with a gig at Arvikafestivalen. We didn’t play as a part of the festival really, but in the tent of Galago/Vertigo/Ordfront by the entrance. Chaos ruled the gig, and afterwards I found my C64-disks in the dirt, stomped on by the mad crowd! Woops. I spent the night in the tent of Bromander and Amaurot, but I managed to keep my clothes on. Well, I had to because it was freezing and I didn’t have any sleeping gear. I got up early next morning and took the train to Gothenburg to play at the internet headphone apartment festival (!?) Totogo. I was sort of trashed when I got there, and I tried my best to clean my C64-disks so they would work. Some of them did, but I lost some of newest acid-tracks. Error! Error! Brrrrrr!

We also made a mini tour in August: 8-bit festival 2 (Tampere), Assembly (Helsinki) and Pirat-fest (Stockholm). Finally I got to go on one of the ferries between Sweden and Finland. They’re famous for being trashy, tacky, lo-fi, alcoholic, sleezy, etc. It was great! The photos and videos we took during our trip (and nothing more) were used to make the Volksing-video. Here’s three of them: (shot by Björn Bengtsson)

And there’s a video of my gig at the 8-bit festival.

The party in Stockholm was arranged by the big and beautiful Piratbyrån, and it was a good ending to another mini tour. Rickard Falkvinge was there to see the massive release of Jossystem’s Jag heter Rickard Falkvinge. Björn Bengtsson and Psilodump took photos, and here are the absolute worst ones. (unhealthy insomniac ferry style)

    as bad as it gets

We also made more shows this summer together with Entter, but that’s a different story!
